England qualify for Euro 2020 in style with 7-0 battering of Montenegro at Wembley

Harry Kane scored his third England hat-trick (Picture: Getty Images) England have booked their place at Euro 2020 with a game to spare after a 7-0 demolition of Montenegro at Wembley. It was an entirely straightforward evening for the Three Lions in London as they raced into a 5-0 lead at half-time and then cantered to victory after the break. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring, with Harry Kane netting a hat-trick and Marcus Rashford also grabbing a goal in the first period. Gareth Southgate’s side took the foot off the pedal somewhat in the second half as they didn’t threaten too regularly, and only a comedy own goal from Aleksandar Sofranac and a late strike from substitute Tammy Abraham added to the scoreline. The second half was significant for the debut of James Maddison, though, who many were calling to start the match, but he rose from the bench after 56 minutes, replacing Oxlade-Chamberlain. Kane took his England goal tally to 31 in just 44 matches and he grabbed a small piece of history in doing so. The Tottenham striker has now scored more goals as England captain (24) than any player in history, edging out Vivian Woodward’s previous record of 23. England were ahead just 11 minutes in and it was in impressive style as Ben Chilwell floated a lovely ball over the Montenegro defence to find Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the back post. The Liverpool midfielder controlled it in one touch and produced a powerful drive back across the goalkeeper to put his team ahead. Chilwell was in very generous mood as he provided the next two goals as well, curling in a free-kick and then a corner, both of which were headed home by Kane. GOAALLL! That's number 3 for @England, a second for Kane and THREE assists for @BenChilwell Watch LIVE...
