Gareth Southgate’s side have already thrashed Czech Republic and Kosovo in their first two matches in Group A and sit top of the table. Bulgaria have played four matches, losing to Kosovo and the Czechs, while drawing in the away leg in Kosovo and at home to Montenegro. Despite the apparent mismatch, Southgate insists his team are focused on performing well, saying: ‘We have everything to prove in terms of world rankings. We are competitive against any team but any team is capable of beating us. ‘We have to strive to improve the mentality of the team, they are hungry to do that.
