Gossip: Fellaini to Arsenal doubts; Shaqiri to Spurs

FELLAINI TO ARSENAL…OR NOT We want this. We really want this. So we are choosing to believe those outlets who say this is likely, like The Times, who say: ‘Arsenal would probably offer the Belgian a minimum two-year contract and may be seen as favourites for his signature at present.’ Please make it happen. But Arsenal do have other options, with Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones tweeting: ‘Interesting that Arsenal are trying to sign Fellaini – also showing interest in N’Zonzi and Doucoure.’ And then we have The Sun, who do not believe this could happen; Mark Irwin writes: ‘The former Everton favourite is not regarded as an Arsenal player by many influential figures at the club and his salary expectations of £120,000-a-week plus a signing-on fee are seen as way too high.’ Elsewhere, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Sokratis. Which is handy because they need leaders.   WHAT’S NEXT FOR MAN UNITED? With Fred and Diogo Dalot likely to arrive this week, where do Manchester United strengthen next? The Manchester Evening News ask the question but are rather vague about the answers, mentioning left-backs and Alex Sandro but then admitting that ‘the reality is that Mourinho may have another target in mind for left-back’. He may. Come on guys, at least take a guess. Elsewhere, claim that ‘Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are not currently in talks over the sale of defender Toby Alderweireld’. It may be that an insistence from Tottenham that they also discuss Anthony Martial is getting in the way of any potential deal.   SHAQIRI TO SPURS? We are not convinced that Xherdan Shaqiri’s frame lends itself to Tottenham’s high-pressing style, but the Daily Mirror claims that Spurs – as well as Southampton – are interested in the Swiss star, who will leave Stoke this summer for £12m. So that’s a move to Southampton then. Shaqiri said on Monday: “It is no longer a secret that I will leave Stoke City. I think the Premier League is perfect for me. I would love to stay in England, but I do not want to rule anything out. It is the best league with the best players – simple.”   AND THE REST Everton have agreed terms with DC United over the transfer of Wayne Rooney…New Swansea managerr Graham Potter will target moves for Ostersunds pair Saman Ghoddos and Ken Sema…Leicester City have revived their bid to sign Manchester City attacker Patrick Roberts as part of the Riyad Mahrez deal…Stoke manager Gary Rowett wants to sign £12m Wolves’ Benik Afobe and James McClean…Cardiff City have set their sights on signing Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan.
