Gossip: Forsberg to Man United, Torres to Toon debunked

MAY THE FORS BE WITH MAN UNITED? ‘Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho checked up on Sweden’s RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg on Friday,’ begins the Mail on Sunday (yes, we know it’s Monday) piece. Unless somebody had a camera trained on Mourinho’s eye movements throughout the match, then we cannot know for certain who he was watching, but he did attend the game and he could not have been anything other than impressed with Forsberg. But as impressive as Forsberg was against Italy on Friday, he has only managed two assists in the Bundesliga this season, so is he the answer to Manchester United’s creative problem? Emil Forsberg reminds me a bit of a younger David Silva. Fantastic moving in between the lines, and creating space for himself. Always looks like he has time on the ball, and is pure hell to pick up for defenders. — Jonas Giæver (@CheGiaevara) November 10, 2017   ANDER NO TO ATLETICO It’s a ‘meanwhile’ on the bottom of that Mail story about Emil Forsberg but it is interesting: ‘Ander Herrera will reject advances from Atletico Madrid, with the Spaniard desiring to stay at Old Trafford and United are in talks to extend his deal.’ Herrera has started five Premier League games this season in the absence of Paul Pogba but has definitely suffered a fall from grace after being named player of the year last season.   COULD TOON AFFORD TORRES? Not unless there is a takeover, says the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. There was talk on Sunday about Fernando Torres eyeing a move back to the Premier League and a reunion with Rafa Benitez on loan in January in Sunday’s newspapers, but local north-east journalists have poured cold water on those rumours by saying the Spaniard’s wages would be a problem for Newcastle. As Chris Waugh writes: ‘At this stage, any link to Torres should be taken with a pinch of salt, particularly given that Mike Ashley remains owner and the Spain forward’s wages are likely to prove too expensive for Newcastle to be able to lure him to Tyneside.’ Spoilsport.   AND THE REST West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic says he will not be sold in the January transfer window…Jurgen Klopp is ready to pounce on World Cup-winner Morgan Gibbs-White in a £5million deal…Italian clubs are said to be lining up for Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian.
