Jurgen Klopp reveals Adrian is a doubt for Liverpool’s clash with Southampton after freak injury

The former West Ham shot-stopper, a late arrival to replace Simon Mignolet, was drafted into the starting XI in Istanbul after Alisson suffered an injury against Norwich City on the opening day of the Premier League season. Adrian was the hero in Turkey, saving the decisive spot-kick, though he was subsequently injured by a fan in the celebrations and could now miss Saturday’s trip to Southampton. Adrian kept out Tammy Abraham’s spot-kick to secure the Super Cup (Picture: Getty) Asked if Adrian’s confidence was sky-high after his penalty heroics, Klopp said: ‘It would help him a lot, if it were 100% clear that he can play tomorrow. ‘Because, and I really don’t understand it in the world of social media, where you are all on it, where we are all together, a supporter jumped over something, was chased by some security guys, slipped and kicked his ankle. Not only because of the penalty, especially because of the match. I think he was in a penalty mood because of the game he’d played before. So that was all good, but now we have to see.’ Did anyone see this slide tackle by some idiot after the shoot out… what the heck man!! #LFC #SuperCup — Reaaz Ahmed (@ReaazAhmed) August 16, 2019 If Adrian is unable to play, Klopp can call upon third choice keeper Andy Lonergan, a late free signing after Alisson’s injury, as well as youngster Caoimhin Kelleher, and will make a decision closer to the time. Asked if Lonergan is ready to step in, Klopp continued: ‘Yeah. Caoimhin is now in training too, so if we have to make a decision we have to make a decision. But yes of course. Caoimhin Kelleher, second left, and Andy Longergan, right, could be called upon (Getty) ‘Adrian came in a week before, Andy Londergan trained longer with us, played a half against Sevilla maybe, I’m not sure, one of the pre-season games. ‘Caoimhin, who we are all excited about, a young boy with the potential he has, was not in training for a while but is now in training. Not 100% training, but nearly, for a week-and-a-half, has to be in training today and then we will see and make a decision.’ More: Liverpool FCWhy Liverpool's defence must improve if they are to challenge for the Premier League titleGraeme Souness tears into Liverpool's defence after their Super Cup win over ChelseaMarcus Rashford sends message to Tammy Abraham after Chelsea striker received racist abuse...
