Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff responds to Manchester United transfer link

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in the market for a new central midfielder following Ander Herrera’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer. Manchester United have already opened talks with Newcastle to sign Longstaff but the club were stunned by their £50 million valuation of the 21-year-old, who has played only nine games in the Premier League. Longstaff is currently with Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season tour in China and the midfielder insists he is only focused on his current club. ‘I just keep my head down,’ Longstaff told The Chronicle. ‘I am just trying to get fit – that’s all I can focus on. I am still a Newcastle United player. Newcastle United wanted £50m from Manchester United for Longstaff (Getty Images) ‘I want to get back on the pitch as soon as I can. That is what I am looking forward to doing. ‘I make more and more progress everyday, that’s all I look forward to. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and impress the new boss. ‘If somebody had said to be me a year ago I would be in this position, I would probably have laughed at them.
